In 1993 Rhythm Nation Records opened its door on Copley Road. Not only was this a record and merchandise shop, it became a musical hub for all kinds of local musicians and music related creatives. Higher Rhythm, Sine FM’s parent company, probably wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for this Record shop as the organisation started out in 2001 in the room above the Record shop, later growing into bigger premises and starting Sine FM radio station.
Many a local DJ’s career also started due to the relationships which Ian and Owen, Rhythm nations owners, had with many venues across the town and their constant matchmaking between the venues and the DJs who bought music in their shop.
Rhythm nation was also responsible for many club nights at various venues in Doncaster, probably most famously the perfect beat which run at the Dome for several years before moving into the Bambuda nightclub on Lazarus Court.
Although Rhythm Nation Records shut its doors in 2009, many still consider it to be an institution of Doncaster’s dance music community.
