The show is called 'Alt-Shift-Return'. Primarily it is a jazz /
world music show. These are words that mean different
things to different people, so we aim to: touch all bases
play music without boundaries, look beyond genre.
We will be playing be-bop, scat, Ghanian Hi-Life, Algerian Rai, M-Base, Turkish dub, Polish electro-folk, Icelandic post-rock, Brit-Jazz, Cuban Salsa, Jazz funk and Fusion.
In fact, if there is one word that will sum up this show, then it will be fusion!
Why Alt-Shift-Return? The words could speak for themselves but as computer-speak.
Or as Steve Coleman (composer of the piece Alt-Shift-Return), says he aims to restructure "...either our own music or that of others by changing basic rhythmic, melodic and emotional aspects...then merging the altered music with other music which has been similarly restructured...Music for us is a way of communicating experience using the abstract language of organised sound."
